What
is Quiz
Rally?
In Pony Club, first and foremost, we learn. And we review what we have learned in many ways. One, very popular method in the winter, is called Quiz, formerly called Know-Down. Quiz Rallies are an unmounted competition of horse knowledge. Clubs will have competitions at the club level, and the region level. At Regional competitions, in the format of a qualifying rally, the each region will select the regional 'Quiz' team that will compete at the Pony Club National Championships. To progress through each pony club level the pony clubber must not only exhibit the riding skills necessary to progress to the next pony club level but also horsemanship and horse management knowledge is required. Quiz competition is a fun way of competing @ task. Quiz Rally is a one day competition between pony club teams within a region. It tests the pony clubber's knowledge of all phases of riding, horsemanship, and horse management. Each team member must answer orally and correctly numerous questions to score points for the team. Junior D team members are allowed to confer with their team members on answers when in doubt but earn reduced points for correct answers. D teams consist of any combination of unrated through D3. C Teams consist of any combination of C1 through C3. Know-Down teams are made of three or four pony clubbers who compete in the following divisions. Ø Division I Junior D and unrated, 12 years and under Ø Division II Senior D and Unrated, 13 years to 16 years of age. Ø Division 111 Junior C, 14 years of age and under Ø Division IV Senior C, 15 years of age and over. 'Quiz' competition is an important pony club activity for its members. Any pony clubber participating as a riding team member on any other rally team is required to attend two 'Quiz' practices. C3 and above pony clubbers are expected to instruct the lower level pony clubbers at 'Quiz' study and practice sessions.
